its nice to see a spark buck the trend of overestimating code severity and use his own opinions on what is or is not unsafe.
the regs never intended codes 2 to be given for any downstairs sockets that lack rcd's , its an interpretation that many get wrong imo. and taken out of context in this risk averse society.

surely you only need to add rcd's to new installations/alterations

Yep c50 crabtree boards replaced ,new regs dont have earth loop disconection times for these 3871 as no curve ratings ,so got to be code 2 which as we all no is improvement ,

So you would fail all BS3871 DB's as code 2's? The regs don't have a 100% table but the 80% one is there, Those readings were fine for years?? Manufacturers data etc etc.
I seriously think you need to look at your codings as they are well out! Sorry if that sounds rude, but that could waste a lot of customers cash.

Although curve ratings and disconnection times do not appear in the latest version or previous 16th edition versions of BS7671 i do feel this is rather a bold assumption to make as the regulations are not retrospective in any way shape or form. Just because these breakers do not readily appear does not render them unsafe for ongoing service. You would first need to pursue manufacturers data for these type of breakers which surely must be available seeing as the NICEIC publish an 80% rule of thumb value for them inside all of their pads of certificates. If the maximum tolerance Zs values cannot be met then either replacement or addition of suitable RCD protection can only then be justified. You would almost certainly struggle to back your personal opinion if questioned by an inspector and test results proved otherwise if compared against documentation.

You can calculate the max Zs for these devices using simple ohms law.
also MCCBs aren't listed in BS7671, do we fail these too?

To also give a c2 departure on these without first giving a legitimate fact based reason is just plain stupidity and leaving yourself open to all sorts of problems.
