The basic should be enough mate, I got a builder I know to do mine, it was easy enough.

Won't your employer sort this out for you?.

If you need a CRB check your employer usually sorts it.

Not 100% sure, I was working for a builder who needed the check, I payed him 40 quid from memory and he got it sorted out, I do believe it was an online jobby though.

Ours are through disclosure Scotland, as for opting for an enhanced version etc I think you need to ask your employer what it is they require (as is what type of security checks they want)

Even then you're likely to be rechecked if you join a firm or go on x job as per the nature of the work

true, we get work in prisons from time to time, the guys that used to do it have left

An enhanced CRB check has to be done by your employer , I had it done 3 times by an employer over a 3 year period as I was working in banking fortresses , however if your working through an Agency they may want to make you pay for it.....

I work in HMP's I am being hassled to do 4 jobs for them now, one in each of the local prisons.
I have no CRB checks done, my company cannot do them on me as it has to be done by an independent organisation, as I am a 1 person Ltd. Co. then that is out.

HMPS did the check on me before I worked there the first time, I believe, and they just keep letting me in now!

I had to provide enhanced information about myself a few weeks before the first planned job, a few years ago, and it's never been an issue since.

The, major reason I have a JIB card is that IF I need a CRB done, it can be done through them.

As you can't do it on yourself, I would leave it up to your employer to sort with HMPS.

I think they're a waste of time, they don't prove you're not a criminal. They prove you haven't been caught.

thats the reason i asked because you can do it yourself, my mother does them daily at work in council

Hey don't get me wrong TJ, I firmly believe in that mate. The point is though that these things are held up by the powers that be as some sort of definitive proof when they are nothing of the sort.
Let's not forget why they were introduced, they were another sticking plaster over a gaping wound after the Beverly Allitt case where a criminally unbalanced individual was working with children and hurting them to draw attention to herself.
They wouldn't have stopped her then an they wouldn't stop her now because she hadn't been convicted of anything at the time.

As a one man band I got mine done through age UK based in Gloucestershire an umbrella service to allow small companies access to crb checks.
Cost wise was about £45 then !

has anyone done it through jib? i can only see the option to request one with a card renewal
