Does anyone out there prefer crimping to connector blocks? Over the last year or so I have found myself crimping at nearly every opportunity when fitting lights over using the connector blocks that are usually in the fitting, (providing there is enough slack cable for future change of fitting)

I dont know why this is but just seems alot more solid connection etc....

Anyone else find themselves doing alot of crimping?

We found one at a bakerys a while back this i gang surface box was absolutely stuffed with wagos, connector blocks, someone had had a go at crimping.......chuffin bit of allsorts in there..........

Sounds like a plumber has been in there! :lipsrsealed2:
Yeah and it looked like it n all.....also found where they (someone) had been cutting the lid on some trunking and gone into the cables underneath (it was overpopulated anyway) so we ended up crimping those ...........bloody allsorts in there man............

Crimps for extending cables permanently and maintenance free.
wagos for fed light switches
connector blocks for simple light fittings or use the existing fitting
wagos for joining more than three wires in a light fitting

Exactly, he is converting purpose made disconnectable terminations, to permanent connections, and for no good reason!!! I wouldn't even use wago connectors in this situation, not when normal connector blocks are already in place, and 9 times out of 10 that connector block is a direct earth connection to the light fitting via a tab from from the frame into the connector block.....

Fair point mate, but im guessing you have never had to second fix a ton of down lighters in a house, im currently doing a house in a affluent area of brum, 60 circuits, 3 CCU's 3ph supply 7x10mm shower circuits etc etc and 260 down lighters in total. if i had done these without Wagos i would have been pulling my hair out, me and a mate second fixing all of the T&E into 3x3 way wagos while a third body was say in a corner making up the lamps with short leads of HOFR flex, all that left us to do was plug and play. they all have their place, and yes i do crimp T&E from time to time and problem most people have is using blue crimps on 2.5

I stand by my previous posts on this subject. No objection to using wago's at all, ...but crimping, that's just a nonsense!!

the trouble with some modern light fittings there is no room to loop in/out and switch wire . with connector blocks even emergency lighting there is no room, i could barely close a light fixture because i used connector blocks recently no matter how you dressed the cables

that's where i would make the connections above the ceiling ( in a suitable choc box or similar enclosure)

in a ceiling if you have access otherwise you would have to cut a largish hole for the suitable enclosure but definitely not wall lights etc
