Crooked Electrical Box

HVAC company installed new outdoor heat pump and said I also needed new indoor air handler. When attaching the new air handler the old wire was too short. Instead of installing a new wire they took the electrical circuit box and moved it so the wire could reach the new air handler. And now I am left with a crooked electrical circuit box. I wrote to the owner who not only felt this was justified but that I should pay a fee to have this fixed. Wanted to get professional opinion on this.

If they’re refusing to fix it properly, you might have to see if they are a member of a professional body that can force them to.

Do they have to be licensed to be hvac installers in US?

You may have to go down a legal route, but it might be cheaper to just pay another company to sort it.

Thank you. Yes I believe they do have to be licensed. I am frustrated at the justification they have given saying this is ok and how it is me who is the problem cause ‘the unit works properly’.

It’s bad workmanship.
In a UK way of saying it, it’s as rough as a badgers’ ---

The wiring to the unit, that looks like a bit of water hose to me, is stretched tight… could cause an issue in the future.

What was wrong with them that they couldn’t put in a longer cable?

I’ll never understand why they mounted it that particular place. It looks like you probably can’t take the cover off which is a code violation and you need 36 inches in front of the disconnect with no obstructions. It looks like the company is not going to take responsibility. Hire an electrician to take the wiring loose and add another junction box to extend the wiring the correct way.

Yes @littlespark for HVAC people that also do electrical work has to be licensed.
