Hi Guys,

Got a question for you. The other day I got a phone call from a guy that works for the same company as me, subbying, installing alrams. He asked me if I had tested this house that he was working in. It had just been rewired by a gang of sparkys who are also subying for the same company. I said, "no I havent tested it yet but its next on my list, why whats up"? He said he turned off the rcbo for the alarm so he could connect up the spur for the alarm and he got a belt from the neutral. Turns out the rewire team had cross connected the tails at the cut out switch, so the neutral was live. Now my question is, the rewire had been done about 2 weeks earlier and the tennents had been using the elctrics as normal with no probs. Now I know the lights would still work but what about everything else. We both scratched our head for about 3 mins then got on with our jobs. Ive just remembered it now and wanted to know what you lot thought. Now I am blond so if Im mising somet Ill blame it on that.

Cheers

Jay

blond and MUFC??? you have got problems, lol. IMO, everything in the house would work but you got a potential fatality there mate.

Most things would work , a boiler probably would not work and some other electronic equipment . Most things worked through a transformer these days anyway . I really hope the house has been fixed .

Yes, the lad that was electricuted swapped them over staight away. He thought I had already tested it and missed it but that would have been impossible. I would have noticed within 1 min. Just boggled my box for a few mins as to how it all worked for 2 weeks. Every circuit is on its own rcbo aswell. Any way being blond is one thing but dont slate the "MIGHTY REDS" lol.

Cheers guys

not slating 'em. just want to be buried at their ground so as whilst i'm haunting the ground, they'll never beat LFC again

Think you have the wrong league. Luton football club dont play in the prem league. lol.
Good result today though, even if though you played rubish.
The empire is crumbleing at the theater of dreams, but it has been 2 glorious decades.

Energised and tennants living in it with no tests being done. Your lot are lucky they are not facing a manslaughter charge. Why is testing not carried out prior to energising and an EIC issued at the end of the install.

Apparently they do all the tests at the end of the install to make sure its all ok, but I have to go round after the plasterers, kitchen fitters, decorators, tilers and plumbers have been and do the proper tests and issue the certs. And they're not my lot, they, like me are subying to the same company. I very rairly see or even know who do the rewires. This does not happen often, infact its the first time Ive ever come accross it but obviously someone from the gang drop a b*&%"ck

I've come across the same thing before.
I was replacing a shower switch, flicked off the mcb, the neon on the switch went off thought I would put my testers across it just to look good in front of the customer and I'm glad I did...!
Found the tails crossed in the CU, swapped them over and then got called back later on because the boiler wasn't working.
Who ever installed the boiler had wired it up with crossed polarity to get it to work.
How long the tails had been crossed is anybodys guess.
