cscs card quey

Hi all,
I have a query regarding JIB CES cards.
I retrained to be an electrician(C & G level 2 and 3) in Jersey after working as a phone engineer for 6 years and worked as an electrician there for 5 years using my locally obtained H & S card.
Now i am living in UK I am finding it very hard to obtain work without an NVQ level 3 and JIB CSCS card.
I'm told I can only get a labourers card.... which I presume in turn means I will only get labourers pay.
Then i will have to apply for JIB approval..... upto 6 months.
Any advice anyone please??

If your going to work in the domestic (housing) area I have found that being part p registered and a base cscs card is acceptable on most sites. You can always apply for a jib card at a later date.

go for the ecs card. you can get this independently of JIB. it's done through the ECA. £35 for the exam, basic H&S test.

If you haven't got the quals.... They won't give you the card.

Its as simple and harsh as that!

Ive done the H&S test for the cscs card, but i cant get a card unless i get the application signed by an employer. I do not have an employer as i am trying to find work and everyone wants someone with a card. How do i get round it?

yea i did mean the ecs card, but still its the same issue. How do you get a card if you are not already employed? seems like a catch 22

Can you not sign it yourself; surely this would be allowed as how does anyone self employed get a card. Not sure of the rules completely as not got a card myself yet but surely someone on the forum who is self employed can advise on this one.

I don't hold the card but have the paper saying I've passed he test as when I did it I wasn't employed so just waited until I was to get it signed........than I forgot.
