Hi All, I am looking for some guidance on the following.

I look after a facility and it has an energy meter on the Main Distribution Board. This meter has a set of Cts feeding into it.

My question is, can i piggy back of this energy meter or Cts so that i can have 2 meters fed of the same CT.
It is a long story as to why i need 2 meters basically showing the same info from the MDB.

Hope someone can help. looking forward to your responses.

Regards
Danny

It would be easier to buy another 3PH Meter and CT clamps and install it than to mess about with a DNO meter.

You need a correct comparison in between both meters. Check the Ratio on the manufacturers CT clamp lable and apply the same equation to yours.

(What Ampage are we talking about here?)

(really want to ask, but at a guess, your place is getting high bills and you want to know why?)

No you can't just piggy back from one to another, just fit suitable CT's for the meter you are fitting.

High Bills but thankfully they are not mine :vanish: Basically the tenant has a meter on their MDB to meter their usage. The Landlord wants to find out what this usage is for future design plans. We have installed a number of Raleigh Instrument Cts on the other boards in the facility and these are connected via a modbus and the software allows him to check on the running of the facility from the cloud. Very good system only prop is this bloody meter in the tenants area

You can't piggyback off of the existing CT's. I've seen it done and it didn't work!

It can be done but would be costly and not a practical solution especially if the meter is been used for billing purposes as it may not comply to regulations regarding metering equipment but all you need is a signal conditioner with dual outputs, feed you input in from your CT's and it duplicates the outputs independantly for whatever use you want which in the OP's case would be to feed CT points on the meters.

Is the meter you want to piggy back off a settlement meter or a sub meter? If it's a settlement meter you can't piggy back of there ct's but you can request a kWh pulsed output from the meter and use that to measure consumption. If it's a sub meter you can wire meters in series from one set of ct's provided you don't put a higher burden than the ct's rating on them.
