Just a quick one.. I only really install brand new CU's and Dis Boards in my current firm. I have been asked to do a CU change for a friend. In terms of testing what do you guys actually test? when only changing the CU itself? Should i just test the rcd trip times and Ze, PFC. I mean if i think about it, its only an accessory and i havent changed the overall design. I could liken it to changing a light sw, just takes longer.

Whats the protocol on this?

Like like like like like (I think)
CU changes the control of everything, so I start from inspecting and testing everything. Special mention today is my fav rfc. I will check rings for continuity, ratio, value and estimated run. Only takes a minute when you've got it all apart. If not as expected I won't commission without discussion, investigation and fix. You are doing CU and it's probably the first thing done there for ages so there can easily be a problem with a kitchen outlet due to high use etc. Easy to fix, but you need to know there is a problem to fix :) . You don't want to stick 32a mcb on what's now a 2.5 radial probably buried in the ceiling under one of the subsidised insulation upgrades ... Hmm toasty. Cheers, David.

I just got home from the quickest CU change I've done in a while. Only two circuits (lights and sockets). Both tested absolutely fine, despite dating from the late 70's. I expected at least some remedials prior to the changeover, the best I managed to muster was replacing a pendant.

iv'e not been on this forum for a while. It gets dafter by the day, I think my Jack Russel has more electrical knowledge than some of the dreamers on here, 100L kettles on a plug top, RA's for obvious breaches of the regs by idiots (managers), what the hell is going on?????

Christ lads only having a wind up!!! This is the sort of mistake i have to put right daily and it winds me up. Went back to a customers house today to carry out an EIC from an CU change one of our lads did a Month ago. I looked like a right tool!! at least its safe now anyway.

I don't like not having a like button, I liked it better when we did have a like button, but now it's gone I don't like it at all, and on and on
