I have to change a consumer unit at my flat for one of my assesments for ELECSA. Now as far as i know i have to Ir the Tails. Also get Zs but as far as ive been told thats all i need to do as all im changing is the board not alterations to the circuits???The ELECSA EIC sheets comes with a sheet for testing all the circuits so do i have to test everything? Now if i dont is it just the 1st sheet i need to fill out which has all the details about the incoming supply and type etc. What will the assesor expect?

The assessor will expect for the report to be completed in full.
The IR test is carried out on the tails as a means to simplify carrying out the test, you will be carrying out the test with all of the MCB's on, so as to include all of the circuits (which you would have prepped for the test) at once.
As for the Zs, this is a circuit related test and will need to recorded for each individual circuit.

You'll also need to measure PFC, Ze, RCD's...

When changing a consumer unit a installation certificate willl need to be completed in FULL unless there are limitations. If it's your house, then claiming there to be limitations may be a problem??

Been an electrician for near on 10 years and due to starting my own company i want to do things right by getting a electrical scheme in place but just looked at the EIC and some things are not as self explaining as u would think. Does n e one know of a web site that explains it a bit better?Never thought id be so nervous over something i know so well!!!Crazy.

This one.

Where else can you get responses to your questions??

May I suggest you have a good search around the testing and inspection area to start with. There's a whole world of information in there, plus ask away anything you want clarification with.

For someone in your position, this is probably the best place for you, as it is for all of us.

hi, i joined elecsa not long ago, i changed a consumer unit at my parents house, the assessor wanted to see the eic install cert, this can be downloaded from the elecsa website. if your changing the consumer unit you adopt all the circuits i beleive. make sure your earths all up to scratch (right size) and fully test and fill in everything possible on the certificate! hope this helps

As an experienced electrician what would you normally do on a C/U change?
A full set of tests to every certificate and a completed electrical installation certificate - its no different just because you are joining a scheme, also Meb should be inplace or upgraded along with tails etc..

The assessor will also look at previous eic mw quite thoroughly to make sure they are filled in correctly when i spoke to him they are considering scrapping the idea that someone can get on to a scheme through just changing a consumer unit at ones own property.

I like the ADOPT EVERY CIRCUIT,100% correct, just because we change to new consumer unit with rcds etc, does not mean that the circuits are up to scratch, hence the need to test every circuit,i have done some periodics in hotels before where diy man had replaced old re-wirable boards with contactum ccu, awful piece of kit, anyway you can imagine the trouble ring mains incorrectly slammed in with radials, mixed up all over the place,no certs,of course.
