Think i've got involved with a right one today.

Got the call last night saying half the sockets had gone of and the fuse had blown. Went out a found and replaced a section of damaged wiring which was run under the kitchen units. Looked like mice but she reckons its the rabbit.

Just spoke with her again and every 2 hours she says 'my electrics keep making a loud bang'

Looks like a peacefull weekend with no phone call has gone now!:cuss:

blame it on the pet rabbit because SHE doesn`t want to admit that she`s got mice etc.....

I was asked to investigate why a 32A MCB kept tripping. Went and looked, the guy (family) said "Watch this!" and switched on the Wylex breaker in front of me. The MCB held for a while (few seconds) then tripped. I was standing the other side of the kitchen when he did this and the weird thing was that as he did it there was indeed what could be described as a "banging" coming from the ceiling above my head - about 15 feet from the board. Went outside and it was flat roof extension that was falling apart. Said that we need to access the ceiling either from above or below - his choice. Cut out about 18" x 18" and a big rats nest came down. Got up and shone a torch down between the joists in the ceiling - multiple rat bites visible along the length! Where it was "banging" they had gone thru the sheath and then stripped the insulation of the Live and Neutral. The whole area was wet from water ingress as well as the rat damage. Assume that moisture was accumulating slowly on the damage then shorting and being "burnt off" rapidly. The MCB would hold for a while and so on. The RCD didn't work either!

This made me laugh, don't see why its my problem TBH.

Her father phoned just before, its the socket for the washer, under the sink, reckons it keeps arcing! What he didn't fancy telling me was that sometime yesterday that the cold water connection to the washer had decided to leak all over the socket.

Said to him that it was OK when i'd left. Thankfully did a minor works for the repair to cover my arse.
