Carrying out an EICR.

Turned all lights on and went to the DB to isolate before checking R2 using R1+R2, linked at the DB and testing at all pionts.

First point; 200+MOhms, second; the same. Randomly test another five points, all +200MOhms.

Marked down the fault, no CPC continuity on lighting circuit before noticing the light switch was off?

Checked all the others and they're all off, the old geezer had followed me round turning the lights off.

Did you explain what you were doing and why? remember Old folk are wary of strangers give em some respect.

I'll bet he's an old spark who was taking the pi$$.....watching you test continuity with an insulation resistance test (M ohms) :), ;),
even if it was clear.
Good spot, very long week.

In all fairness Pete I was instructed by the landlord to carry out an EICR not educate his tannant.

That said a little friendliness and communication with the occupant not only stops them dicking you about but also keeps you in coffee.

We got the coffee, so not all bad.

Enjoying my last few working years on metering the usual customer question is “How long will the power be off.” My response is always “around 30-40 minutes but the good news is we don’t charge you for it while it’s off and if you want to put the kettle on before it does please do it now” This usually produces a wry smile and a cup of tea.
