hi fellas, just an info post
i live on a private parkhome estate"hoburne naish" new milton, the power is suppled by them(10p per unit)just recently our row of homes keep having power outages, one tonight btw
its really annoying and the 5th time in a month
i reckon its due to overload due to the the cold weather, its amazing how one relyes on electicity! without it no oven/hob or heating, computer, lights,
i,m thinking of a small genny or an inverter and 2 12v r/v batterys to power it
btw i,m a sparky of 45 plus years
just thought i,d get that off my chest!
cheers
andy

Geny will power computer, tv, fridge (beer), boiler etc. They come with a 16a socket same as most static caravans so easy to unplug from mains and plug straight into geny. Only thing to remember is to have fuel and not to try and run too many things off it.
I have an old very small 2 stroke geny that will just about power my central heating boiler and my tv if we get a power cut :)

Think you need to check that statement with the Genny manufacturer, i think you'll find that your wrong!! The manufacturer will make that very clear, and removes it'self implicitly from any responsibilty, if used to supply household appliances under the warranty terms...

Any small rated portable generator will have no voltage regulation, as well as a floating earth system, so the voltage, will to say the least, be totally unstable!! They are fine for a bit of lighting and small power tools and the like, but not much else!! As for plugging a Genny into the house wiring via a plug and socket, that's pure lunacy!!

To find a generator that is suitable for supplying household appliances, you'll need to look at units that have at least a 10KVA rating that is provided with a voltage regulation unit, (you probably won't find a voltage regulated Genny under 10 KVA). Then of course, you'll need either a manual or auto change-over switch, and a bit of earthing arrangement provision to the gen-set!!

I believe the OP is in a 'mobile home' / 'park home'. They are normally connected to the 'mains' via a 16a commando type plug, which would plug straight into the geny I suggested. So no change over required other than unplugging the caravan from the mains and plugging it into the geny.
You are quite right in that some small portable genys don't have voltage regulation but the one I suggested (Kipor 2kva) is an inverter generator which has very good voltage and frequency regulation. It is suitable for domestic appliances. It is even suitable for computers.
You are quite correct that connecting a geny to a domestic house has lots of regulations to be followed but a 'mobile home / park home' is different. As you say earthing the geny is required and the gey manufacturer provides instructions on what is required.
