Data centre, earthed floor?

Hi,

We are currently pricing for work in a New data center, off the spec, it states 'earth floor'

My business partner thinks this is to Bond every metal leg of the raised floor? Any body have previous experience of this, seem very strange, I've worked maintenance in data ctrs before and not seen this.

That's what it means. We are currently doing a job and every leg has to be bonded in 6mm.
It's a bit of a nightmare job all the same.

nightmare, but pays i suppose, will take ages, just lay the 6mm on the floor? please not tray good god!?

Our main runs are on tray but bonding between each individual leg is done in free air about half way up leg with a pig tail loop at each clamp.

What would you bond these legs with? Drill and tap then fit a crimp with 6mm bolt? Or are there special clamps for these legs?

The bonding is required to take static build up from the top surface of the floor tiles away to earth.

This requires electrical conductivity from the vinyl tile to the metal sheathing of the tile, to the pedestal head, and hence to pedestals themselves. As each tile rests on 4 pedestals, it is not strictly necessary to bond all pedestals - bonding every other pedestal is normally sufficient, bonding every pedestal just provides a redundant path.

Sites that are not bothered about static electricity will not have had this bonding.
