day from hell

Today has been an absolute nightmare and could not end fast enough. Day starts off with mrs exhaust falling off so i have to run her to work which is a 20 mile detour in the wrong direction which makes me latemfor work, i get to the site, my first day on it and i start chasing out for pattresses when my bolster snaps so im left to doing it with an old chisel. The fuse board cupboard was full of crap worse than most lofts, then when drilling through for main water bonding i catch the hot water pipe out of the boiler, first time in 7 years i have hit a pipe. Water is flooding out as its under mains pressure, so i isolate the boiler power and try to turn the stop cock off but its siezed. I get the grips on it and the head just snaps off. Off i go to the road to turn outside stopcock off and the holes full of mud which i dug out with my hand down to my shoulder. I turn the valve off but it doesnt shut the water off, i was not happy. In the end i had to smash the back of the kitchen unit out and cut the pipe live and make the repair. Absolutly gutted with myself

Always worth having a roll of that silicone self fusing tape in your toolbox. It's worth it's weight in gold IMO.

I carry hep20 and push fit connectors so luckily wasnt much of an issue, but i will get some tape as you can never have too many options

seen a similar type of emergency sealing tape tape at ELEX. not sure if its standard self fusing tape or not.

certainly did the job though. worth keeping some in the tool box lol

My brother did a similar thing when i was rewiring his house I had isolated a secondary stopcok under sink and my brother in his infinite wisdom decided to remove the plinth and undo a plastic push fit connector which was after main stopcok and before new secondary stopcock installed in past by kitchen fitters

water spraying everywhere while he was trying to jold it together
the old stopcok wouldnt turn
ran outside to isolate main dig the mud out arm in upto the elbow no movement
back into house gashed me wrist on a floor tile which had been cut like a dogs back leg
eventually after noah floated by managed to slowly get the original stopcock under the cupboard to turn

Rough kitchen fitters and plumbers

all this was just to reposition the main Bond before branchwork and before a water filter as the pipe wasnt long enough to fit the bonding clamp so i was installing a longer piece, just before I was about to leave should have left it until the next day were he would have been safely at work on his crane lol
