have you not heard that an EICR can now be done from the van..

Ive seen lads from PHS compliance do it on price and can test 400 circuits in a weekend 'cough'.

I used to get through on average 10 circuits a day. There was always unknown circuits, some of which were new and the previous installer couldn't be bothered to label the circuit.
So many variables that can make it very difficult to designate time to circuits.
The lim function can be abused,But I try to not use it as an escape route and try to produce a fair test on condition as intended

I have just lost a commercial EICR and basically my competitor was at £7.00 per circuit. Bit annoying really as an existing client, I said there is no way you are getting anything like a meaningful report for that but they were not interested. Bit peed off about it tbh. Would love to see their EICR once completed as I still have previous one I did last time to compare.

Basically they will need the EICR to satisfy their insurers. Sadly they don't care or understand the importance of the report so they've gone with the cheapest quote.

To draw a crude parallel, when your van passes it's MOT, do you drive away smiling or wonder if it was tested thoroughly?

I know and you are right...... still annoying though. What is more irritating is that client will think I was trying to fleece him.

It's twice as annoying as it's an existing customer. Hopefully long term you'll be respected for your good standards of work. These chancers usually come unstuck at some point. At least you can sleep at night!

Hi all
big local company went in last year to a business & done a initial verification & a good look around.
Charged £500.00 for the pleasure, company had previously had a problem with 300ma trip covering the whole site tripping, their previous sparks had bought RCBO'S for every circuit, I had done 2 call outs when they had no power got through faults but what f... Mess.
I mentioned that to put the RCBO'S I would need to put in bigger panels to accommodate the circuits that were rammed already, whilst at premises I could have actually touched the live through Henley block that was damaged & had multiple boards fed from it. They asked for a price to do the works.

Price
remove panels
install box trunk for wiring runs
main switch for site
busbar chamber
general tidy up in the plant room
install their own RCBO'S
& carry out testing & certs after.

Not included faults that were found during testing or installing RCBO'S.

£5000 plus VAT.

Anyway they got other firm in & paid £500, asked me to have a look at results & what I thought,
no testing carried out just initial, I said what a f.... Waste of money & it weren't worth the paper it was written (other company had hit the wall) on I said get them back as they had quoted for whole test but they had gone under. What do we do now they asked & do we need the work doing above as they needed a cert for Insurance company. I mentioned not installing RCBO'S they had purchased but still a mess no labels nothing.

I said carry all above & any remedial works if required on a separate quote (but we would not leave them with no power on any circuit).
Then they get another cost amazing everything exactly what I had mentioned written almost the same, £4500.00 including faults.
What did I think they asked three times, go with the other quote don't know why you are ringing me.
But we would like you to do work, not interested with inclusion of faults & knocking £500 off.

Out of hours work ect.

Been back on since would I budge NO.
