When i was just sub-contracting I charged a minimum of £18 per hour and very often £20-£22 and was always flat out for 4 years. And I'm out in the sticks really.

I earn £15ph now, 40 hour week, 25 days holiday. £120 per day, £28500 per year before tax

Not bad. But try save for a mortgage, pay over heads, pay rent and bills, car, fuel, food, insurances, treat yourself to a pint once every fortnight, unexpected spendature such as car repairs, childrens bills, clothing, kids in general - and all of a sudden, it's all gone.

The guys are right of course, without adding more suggestive figures to the thread, charge what you are worth and do yourselves a favour. I don't work as a full time spark anymore soam not at liberty to name my day rate, but anything less than £180 is a kick in the teeth.

Agree with wade. As a sole-trader, it's hard to run a business successfully for less than £180 per day. Ok if you're a trade with few overheads, but not a professional electrician. £200-£250 is actually nearer the mark imo.
