Hi all, another thread here for you. I have been doing installs for large company. All inverters are sma sb1700. I know they have an ESS to isolate DCfrom inverter. I have read and been told this does away with the need for a DC rotary isolator. Now, i am a qualified electrician, not too much experience with DC,i know its nasty stuff though. I have been installing a DC isolator between array and inverter because i dont want to short out leads to carry out Isc without the DC supply being isolated. Am i right or wrong ? Has anyone here shorted out the leads without isolation ? am i being over cautious? I just dont fancy seeing or being close to any arcing between connectors. Cheers !

DC iso always for us, but if you dont you need to make sure you cover a panel into total darkness, thats the only safe way to disconnect when carrying out Isc without iso. You would be better of with DC iso that has some fly leads in it, like home made test box.
