When carrying out a EICR the lighting circuit will show a dead short if you have forgotten to disconnect a lamp somewhere. Is there anyway of getting a true reading without removing all of the lamps?

exactly.....strappers to be tested in both directions n all.....leave the switch in the off position?
however not then a true reading as you wont have tested the IR of the switch line
and you'd be agreeing this with the client n all before any 'limited testing' is carried out.....You could do both live conductors to earth, but of course this would not give a L-N IR. BTW with downlights you would also have to remove the transformers....
it is with those GU10s where you need to pull the fitting out to remove the lamp.
