December 1st 2391 exam

Anyone here sitting this exam?
Im sitting it at Dudley college, bricking it but had to get to it sooner or later.
I was reading a city and guilds report on a past paper and it sounded as tho the pass mark depends on passing the top 40-50% nationally ? So i could get 90% of the answers correct but if nationally Im not in the top 40-50% i could still fail?
Also are u marked down for spelling errors, iv only done online exams so far and been sucessful, all distinctions for L2 2330, high 80's percentage for 2382 2392, 100% for PAT, but non were written. Are u allowed calculators or are u not allowed to take anything in with u?

Last examiners report stated only 31% passed 2391 in the summer exam. ~You won't get marked down on spelling but you will be hammered on correct terms ie Circuit Protective Conductor NOT CPC.

The pass mark can be moved up or down but assume a worse case pass mark of around 70%!!!

I don't think they are too fussed about spelling as long as you can see what the word is, but the names of instuments is critical as in every examiners report there is always that mentioned. It is a closed book exam but you are allowed to take a calculator and your own stationary in. One trick I have heard of people doing is on the scientific calculator that come with the sliding case , cover it in correcting fluid and writing equations on that. Just don't blame me if you get caught and thrown out though.

Has anyone done the exam the other way round, ie. Section B then Setion A, because of the points available in Section B?

You can do it either way it doesn't matter, if you fail 1 section but pass another I believe you get 2 years to pass the other one. Although with the way it is being done changing I am not too sure how it will work in the new year.

If I was you I would forget about pass marks etc just go to the exam in plenty of time and try and settle down concentrating on the exam.

As mentioned you can take in your calculator paper pencils pens whatever you need to answer the questions.(Coloured pencils for diagramms)

You will be given a answerbook which you put all your details on and answer the questions.

Its up to you which way you answer the question paper just make sure you have clearly identified which question you are answering in the workbook.

Try and understand what the question is asking it is very easy to go off in the wrong direction it is worth reading the question a couple of times.

If you have done your preparation I am sure you will settle down quickly and start answering the questions.

Test of Ze for a new installation to be carried out using a 3 lead test instrument. State the connection points on the installation for each of the instrument leads?

When iv tested Ze, open main switch then test across the source side line conductor and earth with the main bonding disconnected to prevent parallel paths, but thts with a two lead instrument. Is this a trick question or is there another method with three lead instruments?

With 3 lead testers, one probes connected to the disconnected earthing conductor (to avoid parallel paths) and other two probes are connected to the source side line and neutral at the main switch.

thks banjo, could u explain why the neutral is needed to be connected on this test? I always thought the path of a earth fault was through earth conductor back to transformer then along r1 back to protective device. Or has it got anything to do with, or only used on, a T-N-C-S system where earth and neutral combine or source side?

No its just some testers need a neutral to work.

Doing mine tomorrow night as well. Try not to stress, you can retake it next year upto june, if it all goes ---- up, not that it will. Lets hope its not as hard as some of the past papers have been, some have been a nightmare, some have not been too bad i think.

Banjo is absolutley correct in his reply but I would just add 1 more very important thing DONT FORGET to reconnect the main earthing conductor before moving on!!
