Good thread this, I'm in the market for a system myself. Can you wire a second bell box like a repeater for the back of house also?

yes you can. if you do a search, tazz posted an excellent diagram of a 2 bell connection only last week on another thread.

re above systems, baring in mind I'm almost a complete novice installing alarms. What make / model would suit a person with limited knowledge. I take it all makes / models have the PIR + and - all connected into a pair of terminals. Each alarm zone connected to a separate pair of terminals? Tamper circuits all linked via connectors? As for the comms (is that for the phone?) I've no idea. And yes one that is fairly straight forward to program and fairly flexible re walk through areas. Are most bells compatible with different makes? I suppose what I'm after is a complete package with instructions, as opposed to buying bits separately., Thanks

My weapon of choice was the Premier Elite panel in gunmetal, you can connect it to your laptop which makes the programming very easy, i had also added on some wireless shock sensors for windows which work on a mesh network and each device acts as a repeater for the next device which was handy for me when i added these sensors to the conservatory and then a further PIR in the shed at the bottom of the garden which is about 150ft away but works fine. i added a GSM device that can send me a text if the alarm goes off and you can also remotely arm/disarm etc.....

lol i know what you mean! Need time to look at all models. Want it to look nice also, not just a flimsy ugly bit of plastic on full view.

Yeh I'm more concerned with future proofing, like being able to add wireless sensors, link to phone, link to cctv, link to shed etc etc

Every installer has their own preference on manufacture....and as stated mine is Texecom, which a few of you seem to agree.....would suggest taking a look at their systems so you can way up against Galaxy, ade etc..... Welcome to Texecom

Would recommend the Texecom Premier Elite series also, you're now able to get kits that incorporate a wireless receiver - most basic being the Premier Elite 12-W kit (4 wired zones with 8 wireless devices) where you can have a wireless bell, fobs etc.

Another (cheaper) option would be a Scantronic 9651 panel, quite basic with 8 wired zones and Keypad comes with the panel - very easy to programme and pretty much bulletproof!

Ha, just looked to see what one i have at home. it is a Alto 2162 or 2164 with remote keypad. The wiring of the zones was a bit unusual to the norm, but it works and was installed about 8 years ago.

if your after ease of installation take a look at the Visonic range. You can get preprogrammed kits from them so mount it all on wall set the codes and away you go.

For residential installs i quite like the europlex signet panels now sold as siemens, unless you can buy them direct they will most likely be too pricey. Very easy to program with a laptop and cat5 crossover lead.

Agreed the bell has that DIY look, I usually fit the texecom odyssey 3e but have fitted a few pyronix deltabells recently.

These are my favourite too. The pyronix is great on commercial sites and looks good at night logo'd with constant backlight.
