Hiya,

Did you do the 2391 exam on the 23rd July.

How did you get on.

Where do you think you stumbled.

Where did you Excel.

Do you think you passed knowing that you have to get 60% in each section.

I'm fairly confident about section A which took me about thirty minutes with the exception of two questions which i had ear-marked and came back to at the end.

The questions about Icn Icf, circuits of different voltage bands in insulated trunking, and the wording of the two very similar questions (2 & 4?) at the beginning confused a few in my group.

Not really sure how I did in B. The question asking for five observations on the steel containment system threw me a bit because it was just not what I expected and that together with the fact it carried 15 marks had me floundering around, loosing time and I'm afraid my answer wasn't very concise (siht!)

Will just have to wait and see, expect not to pass and be pleasantly surprised if it goes the other way :)

it was Icn and Ics which is the fault current that the device can take.

Icn is max it can take but not nessecerily be capable of working again where Ics is the same but should be ok for continuing in service.

as for the trunking I went with: fixed properly along entire length, joints, screws, joiners, earth links are tight and sound and lid is intact along entire length and no sharp edges.

i think i slipt abit in section A on about 4 questions , i miss read the question in section B askin for a diagram showin two stages for PFC test i drew it based on single phase thn quickly realized wot i did lost about 20mins doin it all again on three phase, i showed usein a two lead tester i hope thy not lookin for 3 lead as the question never asked for it. also the diagram for MET how many terminals should it of been cos thy only told us about the ring, lighing, water heater, wot about the all the earths for the rest of the install tht needed PIR report?
for the trunking system i mentioned the four checks stated in GN3 line and neutrel conductors contained within the same metel trunking, earthed, protection for damp and corrosion, joints machanicaly sound and of adiquate continuity,

hi all, i did the 2391 on the 23rd... i've failed because i'm a house basher that knew nothing about trunking and conduit. so i think there was 2 questions in part a and 15 marks in b that i was stumped for....almost 20% of marks down the pan.... my fault for not clueing up on it.

2 queries,.. if any one can put me right....

there was a question in part B.... something like " give one possible reason that an rcd would not be required"

in my understanding, under 17th there isn't one, unless the installation is only to be used by a skilled or instructed person.... which considering the place was a showroom, and therefore will have joe public inside it, is hardly the case imo... any thoughts?

another one was.. "an rcd test is to be carried out... what's the test that precedes it and the reason for it?

well if you read GN3... its the pfc test.... but i expect they were looking for earth loop impedance test.

what do you reckon.?

i read all the chief examiners reports on the c & g website.... apparrently...and get this.... there has never been a misleading question that could disadvantage anyone.... pmsl.

and also, where did you get the 60% pass mark from... our college is pretty sure it's 65%... i didn't think anyone actually knew....

i'll be resitting in october.... do you think the conduit and trunking stuff will come up again?

cheers...

i very much dout it m8 i revised like made after the march exam cos i couldnt drew the 3 stages for ring testing so i got all the wording me head straight out of gn3 and it never even came up in the test last week the only one tht did come up was the calculation for insulation resistence i think tht was only worth 6marks aswell thts a huge question tht aswell

IM SURE THE SYSTEM WAS TNS

NO RCD - SURFACE MOUNTED STUFF - NO CONCEALED CABLES

Q1 - NEW INSTALL, ALTERATION, ADDITION - three types of work for which anEIC is issued

Icn - Cb Nackered
Ics - Cb Safe

ZS teests precede rcd testing to ensure a EFLI path exits - else OC problems and test current etc etc
