I have 8 x 80 watt panels and a mastervolt 600W grid tie invertor which I installed myself a few years ago.
I have just invested in a remote energy checker and found that instead of saving me money it is costing me money.
During the day (at work) we use approx 180watts to 220w depending if the freezer comes on .18kwh to .22kwh but I noticed that if it is really sunny (about 360 watts) the energy usage reading increases. I have a digital meter that was already installed in the property and i suspect that it will not allow surplus energy to pass to the grid. make is AMPY automotive uk Z32 M05 (2005)
I have now turned off the array and just left 1 x 80 watt panel (grid connected) and this reduces the energy usage of the house to 100 watts (empty at work).
anyone else had this happen?

I could be wrong but is the meter just measuring the flow of electricty? So you may be actually exporting the enrgy and reading that! Many of the enrgy monitors will not read which way the electricity is flowing and so will show 600w being used when actually you are running at the max output.
So- dont worry and get it switched back on!

Almost of the current monitors are unable to detect then direction of the current flow, so they are added together.

Sounds like you are exporting.

Try putting the monitor just on the output from the pv system if you can for a while.
