quite simple really. if you can't fix it with a hammer ( for wood butchers) or a monkey wrench (for wet-pants), call an electrician.
 
Nothing wrong with LAP stuff. You need a trailing edge dimmer like the one hippyhappy suggested. Ive just used LAP bulbs with exactly that dimmer, worked a treat. Obviously not a leading edge sparky.
 
+1 for Trailing edge dimmer.

Screw fix have them but comes fitted to plastic faceplate, you can try to swap the module with the one in your metal one. They're made by Varilight, and range from £10 to £40 depending on how many gangs. Also have different settings on them for min/max brightness and different types of LED lamps.
