Hello,

First post here, hoping that someone can help.

Moved into a 1935 house that has 3 bedrooms upstairs, all with Halogen spotlights in.

They all have dimmer switches on the walls, problem is that we have noticed - If I am in the Master Bed and the Wife goes to either the Box Room or Spare Bedroom and turns that dimmer - it will not only control the light in the room she is in, but also in the room I am in.

Weird thing is that this happens sometimes, but not all the time... I am very confused - is there something up with the way it has been wired? or are the connections to the dimmers themselves wrong?

Im not an electrician but I don't mind rewiring a light switch if needs be.

Thanks in advance for your advice...

Sounds like someone has cocked a two way circuit up if it only happens sometimes and not others.
I have had to put this right in the past when someone has attempted to convert a two way to a one way and got it wrong, usually when they try to remove the old pulls switch above the bed arrangement.

You end up with a switch which switches the feed to other lights in one position and it does something else in another position.

If it is a botched two way then you fix it by finding the incorrect connection and connecting it correctly.

I would expect to find a central joint box in the loft somewhere, chances are the bad connection has been done there.

This is only a hunch though based on previous experience, I may be completely off the mark here.

Yes one wire nut will grab a wire but I will suggest an orange one because the wire is 14 gage wire for lighting.
