i am doing a kitchen rewire at moment and finally got first fix done last night, there is around 40 spotlights(50W) in kitchen plus led lighting around worktops and in island and large pendant fitting over table ... now its ended up that we need 6 switches,

we have divided spots in kitchen to 3 switches and leds on a switch and pendant on a switch plus the under cabinet lighting on a switch .. now hes text me this morning and finally said he wants the spots on dimmer switch.

now after looking i can see you can get 3g dimmer switches but not 2g dimmer plus a normal 1g switch ...... how would any of you guys approach this,, or any tips on who i need to be ordering from... very likely a brushed steel finish....

In TLC they stock a switch unit that you can swap over for one of the existing dimmer units in say a 3 or 4g dimmer plate these are good for this type of situation if you have chrome plates and they all need to look the same

cheers i need brushed steel, 7 double sockets , 3G 1000w dimmer,3G switch, ariel outlet plate, 1G switch, and 33 35mm spotlights all in brushed steel.... costly i think... i need to start searching soon, its getting close

no bedroom above, and 12 lights on 1 dimmer is the most. so 600w, does this need increased to 1200w in you sexy sparky eyes guys.. or if they say 600w they will do 600w no probs, in your expierience ???? i know the cheap 5 quid ones buzz like a bee when 3 lights on them.....

I would definitely consider some kind of low energy lighting - you could slash consumption from 2000W to 200W by using LEDs, which nowadays have a similar colour temperature to halogen lamps.

Energy consumption aside, 40 spotlights is a pretty boring way of lighting any room; presumably this is rather a large room, so while you could still use downlighters to accent certain features such as a dining table or breakfast bar you could suppliment this with wall lights, picture lights, under cabinet lights, over cabinet lights, pendants, rope light, or some kind of feature light.

I reckon you would just tell them no way tony... You know your sh ....

Update have finally got him to change to led lighting and he has ordered them, lets just hope they are dimmable as he wanted to start with
