As with all manufacturers and models there can be some lemons. Personally I'm a Land Rover man and have used them as a daily runabout and off roaded them quite extensively over the last 15 years or so, yes they have got broken and been repaired sometimes at the side of the road.

People are quite quick to dis Land Rovers in favour of this Jap stuff but I believe they don't all have this bomb proof image everyone will have you believe and I have seen a few that needed the assistance of a Land Rover and the repair expertise of the owner to get them going again

Each to their own but I don't have any problems with a Land Rover

well iv gone n bought it Thanks for everyones input I personaly have never likes shoguns just the look of them Jeep I tried couldnt reverse without hitting my knee off the key Guy across the rd from my old house had a Narvana trucky thing Never out from under the bonnet and his wallet was taking a pounding
I also note when running around I do see old aincient landies , dihatsue 4traks Troopys and the odd HiLux even saw on old Lada Navira
as The one Iv bought was owned by an enthosiast and used as his Mrs "car" not been right off road but been on a couple of greenlanes He kept it in tip top , serviced ect she isnt your normal lady driver either as her 90 "tonka toy" proves so Im satisfied that it is in good nick and they only getting rid of it as they have just got a "Proper car" and disco was ONE 4x4 tomany and its too good to turn into a "toy"
Picking it up on saturday even the insurance isnt to much more tham my scenic

Thanks for the offer STE Hopefully I wont need to call on your services BUT Ill bear it in mind as Im sure some others on forum will take note also lol

There's a good outfit at Larbert for repairs and spares mogga. Called Gemm 4x4, behind the karting place.

Love land rovers, just didn't like paying for them. Old series one for me next to restore and tinker.

What I like for my Discovery one is a handful of spanners and a hammer fixes it.
No ECU, No Elec windows, No sunroof, 3 doors, no rust, all plain and simple, I bought it 18months ago and it was in excellent condition, now, due to modifications and some serious off roading it is now unrecognisable!!

Years ago in Australia, the Landrover was king and had almost all of their 4x4 market. Now their reputation for appalling reliability and equally bad supply of replacement parts, has killed Landrover off. The only exception is the Defender, which is still regarded as a superior off-roader and difficult to break.
I was very anti Jap once upon a time but after trailing out there up the Oudanerdatta Track with people who really know their off roaders, you can see why Toyota and Nissan have now got all the Australian market. Landrovers except for the Defender, are a liability and are now only usually seen in the cities delivering kids to school - Chelsea tractors !

Conclusions:-
If you want to look trendy and don't mind getting a hobby vehicle to tinker about with when it breaks, then get a Landrover.

If you want a workhorse which won't win beauty contests but just keeps on going, then get Nissan or Toyota.

Ps: Mitsubishi in Oz challenges Landrover for reliability - you don't see them in the outback either!

Congrat's Mogga hope it surpasses its reputation.
I have been looking at a D2 myself i'm currently running an expedition prepped 110 defender and so far(touch wood) its been the most reliable of my fleet but, being over 6ft tall its not the most comfortable!! It would have to be a special vehicle for me to part with it now. Just come back from a greenlane trip in mid wales and it didn't miss a beat. Lets hope the work picks up so i can start the Series 2a project thats sat on the drive.

Welcome to the world of land rovers

Chris
