What is the point of all these badges, anyway?

To pick up Pete's point years ago electrical DIY used to install a light fitting change a switch/socket front plate and that's the limit of what was sold to the general public. Now with the likes of Screwfix, Toolstation, B&Q and online the materials are easier to purchase and people are doing what a competent electrician/contractor should be doing.
Regarding members information, I do find it frustrating that you do not know the experience of the posters and how to give a constructive reply without it either going over their head or it coming across that you are telling them how to suck eggs. Saying that some of the questions asked and you look at their qualifications make you think you have more quals than me you should know this and this leads onto the problem with Pete's "boil in the bag Electrical Trainee all the quals fine but no practical experience.
Also what is the DIY banner about?
