Hi All

I am planning on rewiring my house and I am going to undertake a Domestic Electricians course but the one thing that I need help on is where to learn to extra skills required like plastering, making good and general DIY skills so that I don't make a total hash of the finish.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to any DIY training courses please?

many thanks and have a good day!

Your quote on the other thread is more accurate mate. I'll post it here just in case you forgot.
"Complete this course and you are qualified to become a fully qualified electrician" Clever wording hides the real deal

Hi there if you want get started in the electrician field i have a full OLCI electricians course for sale half the OLCI asking price. I came to have it because I took a course with Access 2 Trade careers which then went into liquidation but the finance supplier then gave me a full course with OLCI that I have never started due to my situation at work becoming secure I recently asked them if the course could be transfered to another student and they agreed so if you or anybody you know want to train as a full electrician for half the usual asking price then contact me on
[email protected]
.
The course is from no knowledge to fully qualified electrician including part p and testing all books and equipment supplied.

Dan won't like you advertising unless you are a forum sponsor and for anyone reading this you can not become a fully qualified competent electrician (domestic) just by doing one of these courses.

I think it depends WHY you want to rewire your house yourself.
If it's a project to give you a sense of satisfaction then your local college might do some part time evening courses in DIY, which would also be a good way to meet new people.

If you're doing it because you think you'll save money, you either won't (simple as that) or you could well end up with a slightly off-piste end result.
I'm not knocking your DIY skills but if you want a good job done then it's best left to professionals - there are guys on here who have been electricians for years and could rewire a house with their eyes closed, but when it comes to things like plastering over chases they'll either pay a plasterer to do it or make the customer aware that they're an electrician and not a plasterer.

Same with painting and decorating - OK painters and decorators aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer but they do the job day in day out, to the extent that you can usually tell the difference between a professional job and one where someone has decided it can't be that difficult to give their property a quick lick of paint.

The electrical part of the 'wire your house yourself' scenario has already been done to death on here.

Busy Bee,

I'm in Chelmsford and just starting out in the domestic electrical game (years of experience with general house-bashing though).

PM me details of where you are, what you're doing etc and I might be able to give you a bit of advice.
