do i need fire hoods?

Am about to install over 140 jcc fire rated gu10 downlights in a property and am unsure if i need fire hoods aswell?.There is going to 400mm of installation on the top floor and 200mm on the first floor,am concerned about the light overheating.Any thoughts?

Fire rated replaces fire hoods. if the insulation is celetex then you have a problem.

you can get a metal plate (box) which fits between joints and the insulation goes over the top
get fire rated fittings i fit them has standard now

god you guys are fast! celetex on second floor but there is about 30mm gap. So fibreglass can be laid straight on top off the downlight?

you ever tried fitting Fire rated downlights when there is celatex directly above?? its a nightmare

not a good idea to lay fibreglass straight on top as there are normally holes in the top of the case

Ah right, we normally cut a section out before plasterboard goes up

You will probably struggle with first floor, F/R downlighters need about 80mm clearence, tecnically F/R d/lights still need some amount of free air ventilation from the top.

Other option is to attack the celatex with the hole saw

good job i carry a 6" holesaw in the van,still concerned about the fibreglass.Even with fire hoods there isn't going to be any air flow.
