Dear sirs,

I'm a recently qualified sparks with minimal installation experience and have landed a job carrying out EICR's on social housing. I have something strange that occurs now and again and I'm unsure of what to do about it. Its when I do the R1+R2 on some lighting circuits with the light switch off I get a very high reading of, say, 160 Ohms, then when I flick the switch to close the circuit the reading goes normal, say 0.6 Ohms, which I record.

I wondered if anyone knows how I'm getting the high reading with the circuit supposedly open and is it satisfacory? I'm taking the reading from the ceiling rose switched line conductor to cpc, same as I do on all the other houses. This has happened on about four or five occasions now and I've only been doing the job six weeks!

Penny for your thought!

What are the IR tests like? Have you tried removing the switch to see if the continuity drops to open circuit?
