dodgy ring final

Hi need some advice, changed a db today everything was fine until testing ring final,there was no continuity on r1 r2 rn so no ring now but the 1 leg is supplying power to all the sockets in the house so basically a radial, it was on a 30 amp old fuse so changed to a 20 amp mcb did a i/r test which showing 0.00 on all conductors this on the rcd side trips also checked R1/R2 no continuity did a wander lead test from this leg on the earth at db disconnected to a couple sockets no continuity to earth but when i touched the neutral there was, any ideas what is going on regards paul

no now i know i should have but customers was told any faults would be extra

Bad / crossed connection somewhere.
Or a nail / screw through a cable.

thanks alanl going back tomorrow to have a look just put sockets on non rcd for tonight as was getting late

I hope you got an agreed price for fault finding in writing. Always handy doing a bit of testing first especially if adding an RCD into the mix!

Unbelieveable. You've got an earth fault, and then leave socket outlets live?
Read 411.3.3, and get back there asap to find the fault.

i normally carry a rcd rigged up just to check spinks but used it at a job last week

I chose to ignore that part for various reasons, glad someone brought it up

i normally carry a rcd rigged up just to check spinks but used it at a job last week

what? How about just using that expensive bit of kit you're supposed to use to see if a future rcd will hold! E.g a multifunction or an ir tester?
