Dodgy single socket

This is prob gonna turn out to be alose wire but I would a appreciate a heads up with you guys before I attend site to fault find this one.

Customer reports that her dishwasher is causing the main rcd to trip, but this only happens if she plugs it into one particular socket. (installed on the inside of a cupboard by kitchen fitting co,) I have already had to sort out a fault that they had left - a downlight was not working and turned out to be due to a limpwristed installation which had over heated.

Normally I would think that the appliance is faulty and would pat test to prove, but this might not be if it is only the one socket it is happening in

Think that it has to be a problem with socket if it is ok when plugged in elsewhere. Might be dodgy pins or as you say loose connection.

Defiantly my thinking.

I think I am going to go over the whole kitchen install with a fine tooth comb, after all, I have already fixed one potential fire hazard.

The customer is obviously looking to minimize her bill and I give an hourly rate for this type of job and therefore don't want to look like I am inventing stuff to test. I am going to ask her for half an hour then actually spend an hour removing all of the plug tops and the resto the 6 downlighters and tighten everything up. Plus do some Zs calcs and measurements.

I sheileded the kitchen co from the first fault by saying that the loose bit could have been factory assembled ( I did add that this is why Part P requires electricians to do the work, as we would always check the factory connections as well as our own), but if I find more I shall write to them and ak them to investigate who installed it and give a response to why it is so poor.

please dont tar all kitchen fitters with the same brush some of us are pretty good and conscientious and it could actually be the dishwasher if it only happens on certain programs ive installed a couple of washing machines that stick on a particular part of the program and trip the rcd. allbe it they were cheap nasty ones

Sorry I did not mean to be disparaging about the trade in general, just that I could not fit a kitchen to a high standard and simulaly I am of the belief that some very good kitchen fitters are not able to install electrics to the correct standard either. I mentioned to the customer that I beleive that this is one of the underlying reasons for the introduction of Part p
