I just reflexed my uncles sheep shearing contraption. The picture below is the original flex…. PAT afterwards and all good….
but look. Core colours are red, black and green, no yellow stripe.
uninsulated pins on the plug.
And the flex isn’t damaged by something cutting it…. It’s just so old that it’s cracked along the thinnest parts in a spiral following the the cores inside.

I'm guessing that spiral is due to outer sheath having been wrapped - like you might see on some hydraulic hose. Never knew cables were ever constructed in that way, although it's not altogether surprising.

obviouslyyou'd run outof a bit of tape and some wet&dry.

No…. The flex wasn’t wrapped like suggested… there are some parts intact, and complete without the lines that wrapping would show.

the white string cord inside the flex was used as a strain relief at the motor end.
the flex just passed through a grommit, and two of the strings were tied round a bit of plastic to stop it falling back out.
I replaced it with a stuffing gland.

So you left the cable as then? ?

And the string idea's innovative, for farmer. Normally, if it works it'll do.......but the longer it works the better. A few repairs, I'd wager.

A machine that's been shearing sheep for more than 50 years must be interesting.

Came across this on another forum - I know nothing about it but it looks interesting (but I would of turned it off before tahing a picture !)
Then there wouldn't be enough light to take a photo!

But I'd be turning the board off before going anywhere near it for sure....
