Dodgy wiring in rental flat

Ive recently rented a flat that i didnt view before renting, due to being out the country.

Anyway we've moved in and its a bit of a ********.

But in the bathroom which is on the 2nd floor there is an electrical wire which leads to the electric shower that is exposed, and this wire to my disbelief is attached to the water pipes ... surely with all the regulations in England this cant be acceptable?

I know little about electrics but im presuming its not the earth wire as i believe id see the yellow green.

Anyway ive uploaded some pictures if anyone can confirm this is dangerous id appreciate it as i bathe my baby daughter in here.

PS I believe it was wired by a friend of the landlord who is a jack of all trades

It might look a bit rough but there isn't necessarily anything wrong with it provided there is no danger of the two services interfering with each other, eg hot water pipe melting the cable, or condensation from the cold water pipe dripping onto that fan heater.

In either case the water pipes should be earthed so in the event of the cable becoming damaged and the pipe becoming live, a protective device (eg MCB, fuse etc) in the consumer unit should operate before you realise what's happened (0.4s).

i agree. as long as it's not touching hot pipe/s. although it looks rough. would be better segregated in some min trunking.

Im led to believe that it would have to be installed by a certified electrician as its a rental property ... from this point of view would you say this work has been professionally done as surely any qualified sparks would be putting his reputation on the line to put his name to such shoddy work.

i would say it been done in red / black cable and they will deny it been done in last 5 years!! it wont have any paperwork guranteed!

it should have been, and also notified to building control. as you said earlier, probably been done by oddjob.

It is touching the hot water pipe and the hot water must be very close to boiling point.

some people dont care but thats life pal, ask can you see the certificate and talk about it on here, people will tell you if you have to ring your landlords neck

then it wants dressing away at the least. heat and pvc cable is not a good marriage ( bit like that busty tart, whatsherface and whatsisname the singer)

by the way why has that shower got two copper pipes going in and one hot water outlet to the shower head??

Dodgywiring, can you measure the width of the cable in millimetres, and can you see a rating label (in Watts, or kW) on the shower? It might be attached to the underside. Or even a model number? Just out of curiosity.
