Dodgy wiring in rental flat

Ive recently rented a flat that i didnt view before renting, due to being out the country.

Anyway we've moved in and its a bit of a ********.

But in the bathroom which is on the 2nd floor there is an electrical wire which leads to the electric shower that is exposed, and this wire to my disbelief is attached to the water pipes ... surely with all the regulations in England this cant be acceptable?

I know little about electrics but im presuming its not the earth wire as i believe id see the yellow green.

Anyway ive uploaded some pictures if anyone can confirm this is dangerous id appreciate it as i bathe my baby daughter in here.

PS I believe it was wired by a friend of the landlord who is a jack of all trades

Wonder if the water can get in the side of that shower bets its IP rating is like the certificates missing ?

The wire is 8-10mm at a guess, and there is no ratings label its a Aquatronic Powermixer, if i take the casing off itll fall apart.

Cable is for a pump and may be low voltage, but still very poor install

by the way why has that shower got two copper pipes going in and one hot water outlet to the shower head??

It is a pumped electric shower.

I couldn't find the full manufactures install details but it only needs 3A db pole switch so cable size looks ok. I still say get it looked at due to cable and pipes touching.

Yes it is.

There is no heater in that shower - only a booster pump, so the cable is probably the right size for the job. It is messy though, & I would try to shift it away from the hot pipe if possible.

personally don't like the look of the angle that the cable is entering the shower in photie 4 - without being able to have a good look it appears as if it is channeling all the moisture into the shower.

As a bit of a bodge you can buy 15mm white plastic cover that will just clip over those pipes. It will make them look a whole lot better and serve to protect the cable a bit from the heat.

i would say the cable does look undersized from the pictures cable enters the side of the shower unit is the seal ok or can moisture enter there. I would ask the landlord for an installation certificate for the shower if you are concerned or the periodic which had been completed before your tenency had began a legal requirment if neither can be produced you probably have lines to get the hell out of there anyway as he is in breach of contract. If a periodic is supplied to you phone the elecetrician with any queries you have. I bet there is no rcd on it either. I went to one the other day the shower cable was run diagonally across the room under the carpet unbelievable lets get rid of these cowboys.

There is not a statutory requirement that PIRs are done before a tenancy. GN3 is non-statutory, it is suggested and it is a way of a landlord defending themselves in the event of a problem but it is not the law
