Hi all,

I currently doing a level 4 Design Course and I am working at the project at the moment. I managed to pass the 3 hours written exam and all I have left is the project. Does anyone knows some decent content I can watch as I feel that I need a different perspective when it comes to the project. The Design course was part of a training package as I am learning electricity at the moment. I find the project a bit difficult as I don't have any experience out there and my brain works well by visualising things, before I am doing any drawings and calculations. Any help will be appreciated.

Electrical installation design guide by the IET is a good book for the questions regarding part 1, approved document M is downloadable from the web, Google will locate it quite easily. Demand & diversity can be determined from the above mentioned book along with distribution & client requirements.
Read the project requirements carefully, you’ll notice how the walls are described “as” & the floor description as “will be”, which will help in regards to the cable systems you can use for the ground socket circuits.
Try to get hold of an old project as they will contain the general outline & acceptable format for your own, I managed to get a 1990’s project from a colleague but it’s very different to today’s requirements but still a very useful guide.
Try to remember that your being assesed in the vague parts of the project such as the main lighting which does not give exact locations of the fittings which will require you to estimate the exact cable lengths. Include the reasons for your own findings in detail, on these vague matters as your reasoning as the designer will be determined from them.
Project doesn’t have to be handed in until August 2025 so there’s time, the more you go at it the easier it will become.
