Hello, looking to get home electrics upgraded and get a new fuse box. A neighbour mentioned that their house had a main switch on the fuse board that was encased with asbestos and I’m wondering whether we will be in the same position with our old fuse box. Does anyone have any idea based on the photo?

Asbestos was present in older boards with ceramic rewirable fuse holders. Usually MEM brand.

There was a small white “flash pad” placed in the holder against the fuse wire… so if the fuse ever popped, and the wire melted, the hot material was contained.

Picture from internet, showing a single switch fuse.

The fuse would be inserted in the left, covering the white asbestos pad.
