Okay well this has been annoying me recently.

When I am working and my boss leaves me to do a couple of jobs and says he will be back in an hour or something like that. He gives me a list of sockets to change to different ones, but they are in such such awkward positions where you are literally sleeping underneath a cupboard full of exotic wines that cant be moved and the sockets are half covered (about 8-10)...Then you get the other trades continuiously bothering you to turn the power back on for the sockets (have to crawl out of tight space again)...

Then im on the last socket and someone who fitted it before messed up the plastic back box screw holes (now has to be replaced) and yippy the wires are so nice and short and a bunch on them...

He comes in and says you still not finished yet? and i can see the look of estrangement to why its taking so long to change a couple of socket plates.

Does this happen to you guys and then your boss starts thinking your slow and dont work, even though when hes gone i never had one break and a simple job turns so difficult??

Rant over...

be more assertive towards other trades. power will be back on when you are ready. all to common for wood butchers and plasterers to try to bully young sparks. just remember that you are the top trade on site. you are working with potentially lethal works, muck stirrers can wait.

Any sockets on other circuits that you wont be working on? Other trades can plug an extension in there.
For larger jobs you can use a temporary supply board, something like a small garage RCD unit with couple of sockets attached.
Becoming your own boss at some point works well too.

Plumbers think of themselves as the top trade, especially when they work on main waste pipe in the place :)

yeah, but they need putting in their place. bog is blocked, you can always take a dump in a plumber's van/toolbox/sandwich box.. they're not as indispensible as they think.

(I done a little edit to your post, I'm sure you'll understand where ;), it wouldn't be an issue in the Arms but not in the public area please. Cheers.. Darkwood)

tell them to use an extension lead or just ignore them and say power will be on when its on.

if they dont like it, turn whole board off and pop the busbar out the board ^^ then go on a break

seems to always happen to me...but advice taken on board :)

Yes it does happen to me!!...

I leave the apprentice with a little job, changing a couple of sockets, return after a couple of hours and he still hasn't done it!!

The look of estrangement on my face is there for all to see!!...

are you serious? strange though aint it how my gaffer just says, 'yeah your nice and slim just pop under cupboard'

All this inter trade rivalry and sabotage just creates --- for tat nastiness, resentment, wastes a lot of time and costs someone somewhere money.
A more adult approach would be to discuss these things and resolve them before they get out of hand.
Co-operation is the way forward to a happy safe and productive working environment.

So why are all the other trades being so childish and unreasonable about it???????
