Okay well this has been annoying me recently.

When I am working and my boss leaves me to do a couple of jobs and says he will be back in an hour or something like that. He gives me a list of sockets to change to different ones, but they are in such such awkward positions where you are literally sleeping underneath a cupboard full of exotic wines that cant be moved and the sockets are half covered (about 8-10)...Then you get the other trades continuiously bothering you to turn the power back on for the sockets (have to crawl out of tight space again)...

Then im on the last socket and someone who fitted it before messed up the plastic back box screw holes (now has to be replaced) and yippy the wires are so nice and short and a bunch on them...

He comes in and says you still not finished yet? and i can see the look of estrangement to why its taking so long to change a couple of socket plates.

Does this happen to you guys and then your boss starts thinking your slow and dont work, even though when hes gone i never had one break and a simple job turns so difficult??

Rant over...

All this inter trade rivalry and sabotage just creates --- for tat nastiness, resentment, wastes a lot of time and costs someone somewhere money.
A more adult approach would be to discuss these things and resolve them before they get out of hand.
Co-operation is the way forward to a happy safe and productive working environment.

So why are all the other trades being so childish and unreasonable about it???????

Agreed, but all the other trades are either failed electricians or people who just realised they weren't clever enough before hand so opted for another trade.

You can't have adult conversations with dimwits :smug:

I was doing a 1st fix on a small extension today, the builders [two brothers in their 50s] were a pleasure to work with, they happily drilled a hole in the soffit, put the ducting through and fixed the outside grill for the new loft mounted en suite fan[and fixed a nice piece of ply across two trusses in the loft to mount the motor unit], marked where I'd drilled down through the stud wall for cables on the floor to avoid screwing plasterboard there before I'd had the chance, told me to leave the dry lining boxes with them to fit once plasterboarding was finished and even made me two cuppas while the owners were out - so I did the same for them, working with people like that makes such a difference, and we had a good laugh as well.:)

Hi assegayer

this work will not hurt you at all in fact think of it as the best bit the reason why is when you do go on your own you would have sorted through all the **** bits & have the knowledge of how to get things done right or repair things others have f...d up.
invaluable experience in my book these are the bits that will make you quicker later on. This type of work if you are fresh out of college working for yourself can be a pain in the arse take forever & each time there is something new by the time you have set up on your own or are on price you will be ahead of the game in respect of these problems.
good luck

"Hello All",

As some messages have contained some `Jokey` references I hope that the OP will not mind me mentioning that I have never seen this word that he used written on any other Forum or anywhere else for Years - I commend Him on his vocabulary: `estrangement`.

I do know the word and what it means - probably not from school [too long ago for words like this] but I don`t recall ever getting the opportunity to include it in a sentence.

Regards,

Chris

Remember, the other trades are JUST other lads...with eejits mixed in...

This time honored feud never improves, and neither does the trail of shoddy work it promotes...

I had a good friend of mine, who happens to be an excellent plasterer, doing a job for me the other day...we met at site, and i asked what he wanted,he give me a list and i prepped it to the letter...

I popped the six DS/O and two wall switches back today, and hand on heart, you could not slip a paper anywhere on any faceplates...the finish, wall and ceiling is exemplary...quid pro quo :earmuffs:
