Discuss DOL Stop Start Contactor/overload in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

Errrr!! you really shouldn't be learning about motor starters or anything else come to that, while your working on the actualjob, ...now should you?? Further, i've looked around on the internet, and found a whole heap of site's of manufacturers, training area's and general knowledge sites that showed you quite simply and clearly, control circuits for both 3 phase and single phase. You just cannot get simpler than a start /stop DOL motor starter control connection.

But your right about apprenticeships, ....and there i agree wholeheartedly that it's a crying shame that they are now so few and far between, and it sure does show!!

its just a shame instead of helping the thread with something positive youve just come in to make ****ty pointless comments.

Unfortunately pirate they arent ****ty and pointless. One thing you will come to learn either be it the fast hard way or the slow and unpleasent way after a few argumentatvie and very defensive posts, that this forums biggest contributors of information, solutions and advice are veteran sparks who have done this job since they carved the wheel.

Those under experianced but capable people such as you and i rely upon these dinosaurs (;)) to help us out, so you need to do your best to at least show the most basic of knowledge to look like a total lemon, because as all they then see, is someone attempting to wire in a DOL that will be no doubt operated by some potential numptys, that YOU are responsible for, but Engineer is probably just getting mental images of you wearing a pirate hat, holding your screw driver backwards trying to tuck the CPC into L1.

To get a good head start on your thread, just read a bit of back ground like suggested and come forward with an educated response. Not for one second having a preach here at all buddy im in the same boat, learning every day and making lots of mistakes as i go because thats how we learn, problem is, in this industry you dont just get wet like some plumber, or cut a joint wrong, you might end up killing yourself or someone else, and thats something taken very seriously by guys who work in this business.

Take the constructive criticism with a pinch of salt, and instead of getting arsey with the old gits, fight back with a sensible and well read answer. or taking a photo copy of your ball bag and post it on their visitors page.....only kidding....no one does that.....:D

Its a luxury you earn with age! I currently go on a lego forum and tell all the kids theyre building their space ships all wrong!

i can understand your point but i still dont agree.

I still believe that you shouldnt have to put up with pointless and ****ty comments regardless of the persons experience.

And that these people shouldnt get away with being assholes just because of their knowledge.

Ild have also thought that someone who "has more experience" would have been more gracious and mature on here. Sadly i was mistaken.

I know you need thick skin for this industry so im sure hell get over it when i called his comments pointless and ****ty.

It's like water off a ducks back mate!! lol!!

You have been helped here, your question was answered several times and virtually within the first few posts!! You came here claiming that you couldn't find anything in 2 days of searching on the internet, explaining and/or showing a motor start /stop circuit. I find that hard to belive, when even with my restricted internet access here, i found heaps of stuff within minutes...

Sorry, you need to at least Try and help yourself to find answers to questions you might have. Then, even if you find the answer, and don't quite understand the theory behind it, there are plenty here that can help you , by explaining things to you... We old git's like to see at least some effort put into posted questions, and not treated as just a convienient means to answer simple basic questions, that if you were that interested, you would have found out a little about it...

I'm not and have never been, in the habit of making pointless comments (not unless in a humourous mode), i tend to speak as i find. Sorry if i'm a little blunt at times, that's just me i'm afraid...

We had a bible too in my days of training. A little brown book was issued to all 1st year electrical students around the countries collages. It was a complimentary copy from Brock motors. It gave a thorough introduction into motors, the types, there uses, protection requirements calculations and there control. Also a more than decent fault finding section. This book was quite small in size, (a true pocket book) but quite thick. Still have mine to this day, but the semi hard back cover is getting a bit thread bare now mind!!... lol!!!

I'm pretty sure there must be others here that was given or has acquired this old motor reference book, especially among the older (old gits) electricians... lol!!
