Hi folks, wondered if anyone has any help/comments to resolve this please?

Customer in 1970s hastily knocked up property with many extensions/DIY wiring jobs.

Way 1 on CU is wired into a B6 breaker and comprises kitchen and dining room. Way 2 is also wired into a B6 breaker and comprises the rest of the house. So far, so good.

Now comes the comedy. Opening breaker 1, circuit 2 energised all lights remain on. Conversely, opening breaker 2, circuit 1 energised-all lights remain on! Removing way 1 and we lose kitchen and dining room lights but way 1 line conductor is live and vice versa scenario for way 2. Obviously the seperate circuits have been bridged somewhere. I have TEMPORARILY for safetys sake (although I know still risky) put them both on the same MCB whilst I try and figure a way of trying to trace and remove the bridge thus restoring the customers original 2 radial circuits. Does anybody have any good methodical approach to diagnosing/doing this without resorting to going into the roof, pulling up and disconnecting every cable individually and getting covered in insulation a la abominable snowman? (yes, their eco friendly insulation monkeys have buried all the cables too but that a whole different can of worms...)

Hoping to hear from you guys-best wishes...

agree, also look at switche/fittings close to where outside lights or any other diy job seems apparent.but if not it's a case of doing as you say. tracing cables in the itchy poo.

Good point guys, I did think the clues may be on a 1970s style twin single way switch where common has been wired in red 'line' cable-amazing... don't know if I have the bottle to rewire common using opposite polarities and see what happens-the sooner my new megger arrives the better....what does anyone else think? Love a good detective story....
