Domestic periodic inspection report

Hi all,

i just got told that us domestic installers are not covered for periodic inspection and testing by the NICEIC unless we are approved contractors? is this true! sounds odd to not be able to do domestic period inspection and testing but be able to install, rewire, new build and such like. and yet they sell domestic installer periodic inspection reports?

Yep, they are a law unto themselves. They recognise and encourage the 2391 and even recognise the jib grading system of an approved electrician and the fact that to be approved requires the 2391 inspection and testing.
But if you want to do periodic reports as a domestic installer your gonna need the assesor back.
Thankyou sir that will cost £££ ching! ching!
By the way, you dont need to be an approved contractor you can stay as domestic but by the time you get the assesor back it will cost just as much as going approved. Remember though. It only means you cant purchase the NICEIC periodic forms. To cover periodics you technically only need to proof of competance and the 2391 along with experiance will do that, especially if you are JIB graded as approved electrician. Not many could argue against that.

Would 2392 not be of any use with this? I know its a stepping stone upto 2391 but wondered if some of the awarding bodies wuold allow you to PIR with this?

Thought as much. Just thought I'd add, you don't need the 2391, not even to be an approved contractor. As little as the 2330 (college level 3 course) is acceptable!

The only two things you need is to be competent and have professional indemnity insurance obviously if you're not with the niceic or similar the only person to say you're competent is yourself

This is true, yet you do need the 2391 to be an approved electrician. The niceic logo can even be added to your gold card. and yet as said, even though you may have all these qualls the niceic still wont let you have there full on periodics for domestic installs. All sounds a bit contradictory to me
