Hi there, looking to get back on the tools after a spell out of the industry due to looking after a family member. Just recieved the new regs book and just wondering if domestic installations apply to Surge protective devices or not? it seems to me that it does not in most cases, but just wanted to be sure in case I have missed something. Hope someone can give advice on this.

Thanks

Andy

If my house was near a church or any other building with lightning conductors installed, I would fit surge protection for sure. Generally it won't affect domestic properties.

I think the main concern is with TT systems or any homes fed by overhead power lines. Having said that the kit available on the market for use in domestic situations is fairly limited. E.g. I saw one SPD in the catalogue that fits in the CU but it takes up 4 ways! This is something I will be raising with my assessor at my next DI assessment day and see what his views are.
