There are plenty of manufactures on the market....main leaders are Comelit, Fermax, ESP.
There are a few different system method, 2 wire network..were all video, voice and control are on 2 wires (cat5) with each entry phone having its own address, others are multi core from each entry phone, and last is coax cable for video and multi core to voice control.
Personally I like the 2 wire Comlite, can deal with hundreds of video entry phones, and multi call units

it depends on the system, there are a lot of ways to do it, normally we run ours in beldens and yy's etc.

we tend to install schneider kit

We mainly used Feedback controllers with HID prox sensors, breakglasses, release switches and maglocks.
Always found it to be reliable and versatile kit.

We hooked em up to everything over the years from regular doors to auto doors and even turnstiles.

Always find the best way is to get some kit on the bench and set it up to get some experience with it that way you don't end up looking an idiot on site.
