Im moving a consumer unit at customer request from garage into a cupboard understairs so customer doesn't have to leave house to get to unit. The tails would be 8m. I've considered using a type 'B' 80A DP MCB which will act as isolation and tails protection. Has anyone else used this method, i've not seen it used before.

Makes perfect sense mate, as to why we would install a KMF switch-fuse for longer runs as DNO don't guarantee the breaking of there cutout.

I'd always been told by many other sparks it was LABC and even by a building inspector that different LABC regions stipulate a set length
