hi. i would like to know if it is possible to lengthen a 6mm twin and earth cable by aprox 12 foot to supply a double fan assisted oven if so what do i need? thinking of moving mine but not sure about it as im not up on latest regs thanks .

yes you can lengthen it using the same size cable just make sure the total length does not exceed that stated for the given load,if the joint is accessible just use a junction box if not accessible you bust use a maintenance free joint, also this may be notifiable as its in a kitchen, but someone else will advise better on that bit

yes thats right i was up seeing it tonight thanks trev. i asked you again today but got no reply is it because im from belfast? anyway thanks very much phil d for your answer thats it sorted cheers mate!

Of course, because I did not give you the answer you wanted I must be in some way prejudiced against people from Northern Ireland.
No Bigden that is preposterous, the reason I did not give you a step by step guide to how to carry out this work is because I have no idea of the level of your DIY skills, electricity is extremely dangerous in the wrong hands. As an example, the electric chair once used in the USA to execute murderers delivered a current in the region of ten amps, the circuit you propose to work on in my experience, considering the cable csa, carrys a little more than three times that under normal conditions.
I advised you to post your location for your "friends" job which you did, is it down to me that you got no response? That was obviously the best advice I, as a professional electrician, could give since it appears you're a DIYer because if I'd given instructions and you had hurt or killed yourself then who would your family be blaming?
My reference to you being in Belfast was in response to Phil's comment about the work being potentially notifiable as I know in Northern Ireland Part P of the building regulations does not apply.

hi i served my time many years ago 16th/17th edition of regs still do some homers for friend now and again but need to know upto date things as im not working at this on a day to day basis i have since changed jobs. sorry for any misunderstanding and thanks for the help i think i got my wires crossed by your reply of "friend" thats all cheers!

if it's 6mm cable, i would use the wago connectors ( rated 42A or 47A, not sure which ) for 6mm cable on the L and N and a 2.5 wago on the cpc, enclose in an enclosure ( line products, forum sponsor, do a decent one ). a 30A JB would possibly be overloaded. make sure to get a Zs reading at the oven to ensure disconnection times are met.
