Down Lighters in Bathroom & Loft Insulation

Thoughts please guys on the correct way of doing this.

We have some Wickes downlighters in the bathroom, they are the ones with the springs that hold them through the plasterboard. Currently we do not have any loft insulation above the ceiling, however next week loft insulation is being installed, should there be any protection between the lights & the insulation?

Edit: They are 35W Halogen.

Don't cover them over at all leave the insulation off do the heat can escape also check if you have broken the fire protection if they are not fire rated downlights you may need hoods

In this situation I use cap TL ALC724 from TLC. Keeps the insulation off the downlighters and reduces airflow up or down through the fitting.

You need to fit a suitable product behind the lights so that the insulation can remain continuous but be held away from the downlights to prevent fire risk.

get some chicken wire...and form it into loops.....place these loops around the lamps as they protrude through the ceiling......should keep the indulation at bay.......dont forget though to tell "mr rockwool"...to keep his stuff away from em though...lol...

Thanks guys, I like the chicken wire idea, I was trying to think of something along the same lines, but couldn't think of a suitable medium

These will sort you out, 2 sizes for different joist centres, Aurora lighting

id just build squares around the downlights and keep insulation out of the square.. thee downlight hoods are exspensive if yOu have 50 downlights

I agree with above posts, you just need to clear the area from insulation from around the light fitting and if the fitting isn't fire rated think of using a fire hood or wire to cover light fitting.

I once saw a job where the previous installer used some soil pipe cut to a length of about 6" with a small notch in the side for cable entry.
