Hi,

Client has bought some 240v downlights in their kitchen, which are not fire rated and would like me to install. However, a suspended ceiling has been put in, below the original ceiling.

How would I go about this?

Concerned that by drilling the hole in the new ceiling, then drilling a hole in the original ceiling is going to create a fire hazard. By not distrubing the old ceiling, the original ceiling may get too hot and may be difficult to fit.

Any ideas would be grateful :D

My understanding is that as long as you have a ceiling with no penetrations ie the original one above the suspended ceiling fire hoods aren't required as there is still a fire barrier between the two fire compartments. Sure someone will know the true answer. Sorry reread the question didn't realise the suspended ceiling isn't that deep. Click do some really really shallow fire rated downlights, tell the customer to take back their ones;)

easy solution is to fit in lower, suspended ceiling. don't cut the upper ceiling. fit LEDs to eliminate heat. problem solved.

I would ask the customer to take them back!

I would not fit them in my house or that of a relative, if you treat your customer as such then you cannot go wrong. (In the long term)

Feel the love......But it does work!!!!

TOO MANY CIDERS!!!
