Downlighters go off then on

Hi all
Been working on a customers shower this morning The bathroom is lit by downlighters in the ceiling Problem was two of the downlighters stopped working & then after a few minutes relit. This continued for the hour that I was there The customer assured me that this was usual & she had been advised by the "electrician" that the transformers were overheating/recooling , also another light in the bathroom didn't even light!
Was the electricians explanation feasible ? If so, safe to leave ? How should it be repaired ?

sounds like my **** up i did months ago!! 35w max 105w transformer feeding 3 lights! happy days!

2x35 and a 50 slipped in!! argh bargin bin at b&Q was mixed! result lights were on and off! untill i fitted 3x 20w as they were bright enough!
