HI, Im doing the electrics on a kitchen extension. The customer wants downlighters. Will these fittings have to be low energy to comply with part L of the building regulations? or can I fit standard 50w gu10 fittings? cheers

think part l only refers to new build. to be safe, fit GU10s with 25% cfl lamps, then replace candles for proper lamps after job signed off.

it says that part l applies to new build and existing refurbs. Would a new kitchen extension be classed as a new build? Or a refurb? From what I can see, there should be 75% low energy fittings. But I dont want to buy low energy if I dont have to, I would look a bit daft if they were not actually needed after I said they were

It applies to extensions.
It is 75% now.
You can use any fitting so long as it has an energy efficient bulb in it (45L/W) when the building inspector calls.
If in doubt contact LABC.

If you have 100 downlighters in the kitchen off one circuit/switch this is classed as one point, as long as the rest of the property has low energy fittings your fine!
(Now this was not what I believed until recently, however have it on good authority that this is the case???????)

Nah.....1.0mm2 singles, no earth with a nail in the fuseholder......We all know that 1.0 can carry 22 amps with no problem at all.

What about 9.5KW showers??? There fine in 1.5mm2

Dont understand what all the fuss is about, just wired a 17KW induction hob in 2.5T+E, saved a fortune on cable and helps with the copper shortage!
